American Horror Story: premiere speculation

Summer is ending soon, and that means fall weather and cool evenings. It also means a new mysterious season of American Horror Story. The new season is set to premiere this month and surprisingly enough, viewers still don’t know the official theme yet. Known for its past themes such as asylum, coven, and murder house, the audience is beyond ready for this next season’s theme to be revealed.

With the sixth season of American Horror Story premiering in less than two weeks, fans have been anxiously anticipating the theme reveal.  The showrunners threw many of their dedicated viewers off due to the early September 14 premiere date.

Typically, the anthology series does not begin until mid-October.  Last season’s storyline took place in a hotel and brought in new actors, including the well-known Lady Gaga. In the past, the series theme would have already been officially announced. This time, however, they have taken to social media by posting cryptic, seemingly unrelated short videos and picture teasers that have left everyone guessing.

At the beginning of August, the most buzzed about conspiracy circled around the Lost Colony.  Once pictures, supposedly leaked by TMZ, began circulating Twitter, fans were almost sure that the show would take place in Roanoke. However, once videos started popping up on the show’s social media accounts, speculation began.

As August passed and more clues were released, more conspiracies began being proposed, including “slender man” and more recently “the mist.”  The mist theme is said to be anything from a nod to Stephen King’s novel that referenced a small town terrorized by supernatural creatures to just a general description to how the season will begin.

As for the leaked Lost Colony pictures, viewers believe that the movie and television website “Rotten Tomatoes” unintentionally titled the season before the official announcement. Others believe that the season will focus on the famous internet villain, slender man.  Slender man is a tall, thin man with the motivation to abduct children.  Both are reasonable guesses based on the short clips of odd children in a cornfield and the misty creatures walking along a set of long train tracks.

Several Twitter users have voiced their frustrations about the theme still being kept under wraps.

“I’m starting to think that there is no theme of this new season of AmericanHorrorStory. Or that there even is a new season,” said user KKSouthall.

Although in the past, the show has always enjoyed adding shock value and surprise, it is safe to say that fans are sincerely confused and becoming impatient with Ryan Murphy for not giving them more to work with in terms of clues.

“Honestly Ryan Murphy hasn’t announced a theme for the new American Horror Story yet because he’s hasn’t thought of one yet,” wrote user Colxburke.

With the premier only two weeks away, it will be interesting to see if the theme is officially released before the premiere date. Perhaps Ryan Murphy is waiting until everyone tunes in on September 14 to let us know what we are in for.
