How Ali became “A. Monster”
Want to build your own monster truck?
Get ready to pay up.
Ali Mansour, owner of a 1995 red Chevrolet G 71 that’ s one of the largest street-legal trucks on the East Coast, got lucky.
“(I got it) actually by accident,” Mansour recalled. “I wanted to do something really big to my other lifted truck and I looked on ebay and I found out this guy builds monster trucks and he said he built one for this guy and the guy didn’t know anything about it or how to handle it. So the guy who owned it, ended getting it from Florida and got it shipped down here and here I am with it.”
But what if Mansour went through and outfitted his own vehicle?
“I’d actually asked them how much it was to do everything and he said $15 grand just to lift it and do all the suspension upgrades and whatnot,” Mansour said.
But there is a financial upside.
“The maintenance on it is low. The gas mileage on it is great,” Mansour said.
But don’t forget the big tires. Mansour’s happy with those he owns.
“The tire itself is 44 inches tall. It was actually built so I could run a 52-inch tractor tire off road. And actually it clears 52 quite well,” Mansour said.
And from things like that, the vehicle’s license reads AMONSTER.
“That comes from when I used to ride dirt bikes and stuff like that. I got that nickname at a contest when they couldn’t pronounce my name,” Mansour said. “I put that on my hummer when I first got it. Well, I retired that tag and I wouldn’t put it on anything else. Whenever I got this I knew it was going to be fitting.
“It’s my big toy.”
