Negative Nancy Band Profile
Wilmington bred and based band Negative Nancy has a more innovative sound than many nationally known bands out there today.
Blending an original mix of background vocals, instrumentation and lyrical ability, Negative Nancy has a fantastic sound all their own ready-made for countrywide exposure.
Josh Ausband (guitar and vocals), Mick Davis (bass and vocals), Royal Hooper (guitar and vocals) and Troy Williamson (drums and vocals) are the boys that make up Negative Nancy. Three of the four members have been together as a group since high school, while Davis and Hooper have been friends since kindergarten. This friendship shines through in the blending of their music.
Each member brings his own personal touch to the band, and it comes through in every song. The harmony of vocals, lead and background singing and screaming, alone brings Negative Nancy the distinction of dramatics and intensity that make them so interesting to listen to.
Williamson said this harmony is something that has only just recently evolved to it’s full potential.
The hard rock rhythm of Negative Nancy’s newest EP Between You and Me plays on a lot of the melodies that are popular today, while making them better by adding their own twist. A lot of the punk basis that Negative Nancy started with still shines through on their carefully crafted tracks.
The melding of all these different elements is what gives each song such a rich and textured feel.
While they are in the process of searching for a record label to get them national exposure, the band is apprehensive to share too many details.
Until then, fans can always catch them playing live around Wilmington, including a Nov. 2 show at Lucky’s. Information is also available by e-mailing them at [email protected].
Whether it’s for their intense musicianship or original sound, Negative Nancy seems destined for fame beyond the North Carolina coast.
