One Tree Hill: Wilmington’s newest show back in action

Lights, camera and tons of steamy action! That’s the call for the second season of The WB’s hit series “One Tree Hill”. The whole cast is back and ready to supply its fans with the weekly drama that gets them through their 8 a.m. classes. This cast includes: Chad Michael Murray (“A Cinderella Story”), Hilarie Burton (an MTV VJ), James Lafferty (“Once and Again”), Bethany Joy Lenz (“Bring It On Again”), and Sophia Bush (“Van Wilder”).

For those that have been living under a rock, “One Tree Hill” is the show that filled the void in UNCW’s hearts and in Wilmington’s film credits when “Dawson’s Creek” ended its six-season run in 2003. “One Tree Hill” is based around the relationships of five small town, North Carolina teens.

Now, for those diehard Hill-fanatics or even just those who are interested in the magical world of television, this columnist has some amazing info! Screen Gem Studios, where “One Tree Hill” is filmed, is offering tours of the OTH sets. Head tour guide and UNCW senior, Gene Nolte believes, “[The tour] is an excellent way to share Wilmington’s commitment to film with the community.”

Located near downtown Wilmington at 1223 N. 23rd St., Screen Gems Studios guides fans on a one-hour walking tour through the sets of various projects that are currently being filmed. Also on the tour is an entire sound stage devoted to memorabilia of projects that have filmed here in Wilmington. The collection includes props and set pieces from “Dawson’s Creek,” “Matlock,”” Black Night” and “Muppets in Space,” to name a few.

An awesome “cast” of tour guides includes several UNCW students who guarantee a good time. They will be able to answer all “One Tree Hill,”” Dawson’s Creek,” or any other Wilmington film questions one could have. UNCW student David Wilkins enjoyed his tour, stating, “It is a trip to walk through sets that you just saw on TV the night before.”

It is also rumored that Outkast is setting up production for an HBO movie to be filmed at Screen Gems and that another up-and-coming teen drama may film in Wilmington as well. Tour tickets are only $12 for adults. Any questions about the tour can be directed to the tour guide office at (910) 343-3433.

Also, for those looking to see a star or become one, Fincannon and Associates casting agency is located right next to the café on the studio lot. There, anyone can sign up to work as an extra and be seen on “One Tree Hill”. Plus, it’s a paying gig!

Mark your calendars, “One Tree Hill” will return with all new episodes September 21st on The WB.
