Face Off! Round Two… Just who do Coheed and Cambria think they are

Linnie: Coheed and Cambria’s first album, “Second Stage of the Turbine Blade,” was a groundbreaking exercise in what makes an independent album great. It was intriguing, enlightening, and all-around kick-ass.

Brad: Why, Linnie, I could not agree with you more. There is nothing greater than a bunch of guys who copy Thursday’s music, At the Drive-In’s haircuts, and Jennifer Tilly’s voice. It’s people like you that have catapulted these post-hardcore hacks into Hot Topic fame.

Linnie: Hot Topic? Hot Topic? Okay, you have a point there. But Claudio Sanchez does not sound like Jennifer Tilly. His voice adequately portrays the child-like longing and desperation that dominates much of their music.

Brad: Actually, his voice adequately portrays a singer who has his balls stuck in a vice grip.

Linnie: Way to be creative, Brad.

Brad: All of these emo-core bands are just as played out as that awful Hoobastank song.

Linnie: Well aren’t we just the king of the emo hyphenates? Coheed’s last album managed to satisfy both their hardcore fans as well as the pop-freaks that have recently adopted them as house band. While there is nothing more annoying than a 14 year-old belting out “A Favor House Atlantic,” the band maintained much of their credibility.

Brad: Yeah, if your definition of credible is New Found Glory teaming up with the singer from the Go-Go’s and cranking the suck up to eleven. This entire genre has hit a big brick wall and will never be interesting again to anyone who has graduated from junior high school.

Linnie: Listen; what it comes down to is whether or not the band satisfies your particular jones for post-indie-semi-hardcore-college-rock (And I beat your hyphenates so eat it!) And they do it for me. End of story, see you later, buh-bye now.

Brad: Well, Linnie, as long as the Britney Spears’, P.Diddy’s, and the Toby Keiths’ of the world are still writing music, there will be crazy-ass people lining up on Tuesdays to buy it. It may not be fair, and it may not be right, but it’s the way it is. Life is full of disappointment, people, and Coheed and Cambria serve as a prime example of that sentimen
