Parking Fines
This letter has been sent to the parking manager, Gwen Bolden, three times in the last week and a half and has still not received a response.
I would like to set up an appointment, if possible, with the person in charge of parking tickets and appeals. I purchased a parking pass for this entire year, and started driving a different car towards the beginning of the spring semester. Since my parking pass was on my old car, I started to receive several parking tickets for not having a decal. Mid February, I went to the office of auxiliary services to get a new parking decal and was told that I could not, on any circumstances, be given a new decal unless I brought the old one in. However, in the Question and Answer portion of the auxiliary services website concerning parking tickets, it says “If you do not have the old permit, please present the current registration for the vehicle or bill of sale for the new car.” I was not made aware of this, and was instead given a temporary parking pass and told that the pass was good for two weeks, and that’s how long I had to get my old pass, which was not readily available and that she expected me to be able to tear it off of my old car and place it on my new one. I was not made aware of the fact that I could get another temporary parking pass after the two weeks. By mid march, I was able to acquire my old parking pass and brought it into auxiliary services, explaining that there was no way it would stick back on my car. They printed off a new decal, and I then appealed the four parking tickets that I was eligible to appeal, pleading my case. A month later, I find out that these tickets were not suspended. I, as a full time student, find it very hard to come up with $100 to pay for parking fines which I feel were given to me unfairly. I also find it unfair that I paid to be able to park on this campus, but end up paying more than the actual parking pass itself in fines due to miscommunication from the staff in the office of auxiliary services. An appointment with the head of this department, or at least a response, would be greatly appreciated. Thank YouTyler Cobb
