Nintendo Fusion Tour:
For the third year in a row, Nintendo is sending a select group of up and coming musicians around the United States with two goals. They want to promote bands that are or will be taking over the airways, and they want to give everyone a taste of what will be coming out of the Nintendo product line.
With these two goals in mind for the 2005 tour, Nintendo, in conjunction with Clear Channel Entertainment properties and sponsor; Blender Magazine, are letting Fall Out Boy loose in 40 locations around the country. The shows will take place from Sep. 27 in Detroit until Nov. 23 in New Jersey.
This year’s tour is focused more on the emo-pop-punk scene than past years. After having Evanescence on the first NF Tour in 2003, and My Chemical Romance and Story of the Year in 2004, Fall Out Boy has a lot to live up to. They definitely aren’t afraid to bring the noise and they aren’t being sent out alone.
Along with FOB as headliner, Nintendo is offering up Motion City Soundtrack, Boys Night Out, Panic! at the Disco and The Starting Line.
With this smorgasbord of pop-punk and underground-punk music it’s no surprise that most venues were sold out before the tour began. On Oct. 15, FOB will headline at Myrtle Beach’s House of Blues. Motion City Soundtrack will be the opener for the sold out crowd.
Patti Travasos, promotions and marketing manager for HOB Myrtle Beach, said “We look forward to hosting the Nintendo Fusion Tour featuring Fallout Boy.” She added that they are excited to give fans of FOB and Motion City a chance to enjoy the venue.
Fall Out Boy’s new album, “From Under the Cork Tree”, has pushed the group into the limelight. Motion City, a fusion of intelligent pop-punk, has been celebrating success with “Commit This to Memory” and their latest single “Everything is Alright” which includes lead singer of FOB Patrick Stump.
If all fingers are crossed, the audience may see Stump make a guest appearance for “Everything is Alright.”
Myrtle Beach will miss Panic! at the Disco from Decaydence Records, FOB’s bassist Peter Wentz’s record label, as well as Boys Night Out and Starting Line.
In their places, Nintendo will be setting up stations for video gamers to test out new Nintendo products such as Game Boy micro, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for Game Cube and many other yet-to-hit-the-market goodies.
“Holy Crap! That’s awesome. I think that is cool because there’s so much of an emphasis on music in video games today,” senior Josh Tobey said. Toby added that live music would add to the gaming experience.
As if good music wasn’t enough, the Nintendo Fusion Tour aims to please with upcoming stars and games that everyone is more than ready to get their hands on. Maybe that’s why most venues were sold out before the tour started.
