Who exactly is this Demetri Martin
Well, he’s a person. At least that’s what his recent Comedy Central special, “Demetri Martin. Person,” suggests. He also happens to be a performer for ACE’s concert series on our campus Wednesday, April 25.
Demetri Martin is an Emmy Award-nominated comedian who is best known for his work on “The Daily Show.” Martin got his big start in the comedy world in 2001 when he appeared on Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend.” From there, he won the Perrier Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was picked up for a British television special in 2004.
From 2003-2004, he was a writer for “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and was featured on “Comedy Central Presents.” Beginning in 2005, Martin appeared on “The Daily Show” as the host for the segment “Trendspotting,” in which he explained hot trends among the youth of America, such as social networking and the hookah. In 2006, Martin released a CD-DVD called “These are Jokes.” In 2007, he appeared in his own Comedy Central special, “Demetri Martin. Person.” He currently performs stand-up and appears as the youth correspondent for “The Daily Show” with his segment “Professional Important News with Demetri Martin.”
Martin will perform April 25 in Kenan Auditorium at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 with a student ID, available through the Kenan Box Office. Demetri Martin is brought to UNCW by ACE as a part of ACE Concert Series.
Students can check out Demetri before heading to the show by watching video clips on YouTube and MySpace or checking out his Web site http://www.demetrimartin.com, which features Martin’s poetry, artwork and comedy.
