UNCW creates electronic refunding process

As of July 1, 2009, Student Accounts will no longer use Higher One to issue student refunds, and instead will implement a new process through the use of an online Web site. TouchNet Bill + Payment Suite, which currently generates electronic bills, will also process E-refunds.

“This is a one-stop approach that will allow students and parents to log in to view a student’s bill and real-time account activity and set up payment profiles for making payments and receiving electronic refunds,” said Nadine Flint, the director of student accounts.

The new process will allow refunds to be issued directly from UNCW and into students’ checking or savings accounts. Students will have to enter their bank account information into SeaNet/E-bill to receive any excess funds from loans, overpayments, scholarships and grant monies.

The refunds will be directly deposited into the checking or savings account that is specified. The refunds cannot be issued to a credit card even if the refund is the result of a credit card overpayment.

“Receiving the refunds electronically will eliminate the confusion with the issuance of another card,” Flint said. “Often times students did not activate the Higher One card, destroyed it thinking it was a credit card and were then charged a replacement card fee.”
