Wag vs. Dub’s: Obvious Winner in the Campus Dining War
Don’t worry if you hear explosions on campus; it’s just a part of the constant warfare between Wagoner and its biggest competitor, Dub’s Café. Although Wag has taken steps to improve itself, it will never outdo Dub’s.
If you live on campus you might always find yourself eating at Wag because it’s close by. However, if you haven’t taken a trip to the Warwick Center to eat at Dub’s yet, you don’t know what you’re missing. The atmosphere, the food, and the people all make Dub’s a much more enjoyable dining experience than Wag.
Since it’s smaller, the atmosphere of Dub’s is much more relaxed. There aren’t swarms of people, and you can actually hear yourself talk, unlike in Wag. If you’re eating alone, don’t worry. Multiple flat screen TV’s are mounted on the walls for students to enjoy some of their favorite shows. And if it’s a nice day, why not sit outside on the new patio furniture? None of those options are available at Wag, making Dub’s an obvious winner.
“It feels more like a restaurant. It’s more personal,” said sophomore Melia Swicegood.
With fresh produce at the salad bar, a hot pasta station, a sandwich station, and a hot entrée station, you can always find something delicious to eat at Dub’s. The best part, though, is that there’s no mystery meat like Wag frequently serves. I don’t know about some people, but I would choose Dub’s baked chicken over Wag’s fried pork chop sandwich any day.
Don’t even get me started on the new ice cream machine at Dub’s. Flavors such as banana, strawberry, cotton candy, and cappuccino are just a few of the selections. The Dub’s ice cream machine blows Wag’s out of the water. What makes Dub’s even better is that all paper and plastic products are environmentally friendly.
Since Dub’s is generally less crowded than Wag, the students really get a chance to interact with the staff. Dub’s employee Sarah de la Vega said,
“I get to meet a lot of people working at Dub’s, whereas in Wag everyone’s just a face.”
With all of the perks of Dub’s, it’s a wonder why so many people still choose to eat at Wag. The only reason I can think of is proximity to the on-campus housing. However, Dub’s has Wag beat in all other aspects.
Sorry, Wag. Better luck next year.
