Keith Fraser and Adam Webb elected student body president and vice president

Rising senior Keith Fraser and rising junior Adam Webb are UNCW’s recently elected Student Body President and Vice President, respectively, for the 2012-13 academic year. The pair advertised across campus and rallied UNCW students as a joint team on the election ticket.

“Fraser and Webb” flyers picturing the two in front of the majestic copper Seahawk sculpture at the front of campus could be seen everywhere, as well as their names in abundance in chalk, painted on the spirit rock, and across Facebook. Now that the student population has selected Fraser and Webb as its leaders for the upcoming year, their presence across campus and in the lives of UNCW students is only going to increase.

“I wanted to run for Student Body President because I do believe that amid such a tumultuous climate in higher education, students need to have a consolidated and strengthened voice,” Fraser said. “With the (recent) change of leadership in the upper administration (i.e. Chancellor and Provost), now is more important than ever for student concerns and stances to be truly advocated for.”

The pair has already started constructing a plan for next year, and they have taken input from various groups of students in the process. Their plans and goals have been shaped by their interaction with other UNCW students.

Fraser, who is studying Public and International Affairs with minors in Leadership Studies and Public Administration, and Webb, who is studying Business Economics and Finance with a minor in English, are definitely not strangers to the ways of campus and student life. Both have been extremely involved during their time as soaring Seahawks.

Since coming to campus, Fraser has been an orientation leader, a Seahawk Link and the service area manager for the Campus Activities and Involvement Center. He has been involved with student government, serving on the Appropriations Committee one year and chairing the Student Affairs Committee the following year.

Webb has wasted no time making his mark at UNCW and making it a priority to get involved. In his two years here, Webb has been an RA in the Seahawk Crossing and a member of the Men’s 1-in-4 group, has served as a representative on the QEP task force, and has been involved with SGA both years, serving on the Business Affairs committee his first year and chairing the Academic Affairs Committee this year.

The Fraser and Webb team is excited to exercise their potential and start accomplishing their platform goals, which range from business to student to academic affairs. They are advocating the installment of additional bottle refill stations, a reassessment of Wave bus stops, school spirit events for spring sports similar to “Feel My Teal,” a smooth transition for the Provost and increased communication with administration.

“Keith and I have worked very hard to represent the voice and vision of the students at UNCW for the last two years, and I think stepping into this role will allow us to continue to do that but at a larger level. I am very excited about building and working closely with Keith and the members of the SGA in the 2012-2013 year to represent the students the best we can so we can make this wonderful university the best it can be,” said Webb.
