Don’t Want None Unless You Got BUNS Hun

Being a food, a reference to one’s gluteus maximus, and a popular women’s hairstyle, buns have recently made their mark on the world in a place most might not have expected: the heads of many adult males.

Although it can’t be buttered or baked, in the eyes of women the man bun is an important addition to the perfect boyfriend BUNdle. No longer is intelligence and stature as seemingly impressive as a man’s ability to quickly tie his hair into a perfect, beautiful knot, without any flyaways!

Imagine the awe when a boy sitting next to you in class leans over and asks for a hair band instead of a pencil. Princess Leia is no match for the earthly college male.

The evolution of male hairstyles has come a long way from the Beiber flip, however all buns were not created equal. There are important methods of approach when constructing the man bun. First is positioning. Some men position the bun at the top of the head, so that it rests easily in the center. Some, however, position the bun at the back of the head, sticking directly out as if it were another appendage. Another popular way to wear a man bun is to shave the head around the bottom and leave the hair at the top of the head long and in a bun.

The second important factor to consider is natural hair type. The man bun is usually much more easily constructed on a man with curly hair. Most men with straight hair opt to do a ponytail instead. The man bun can also be referred to as a ‘bro bun’ or a ‘mun’.

You may be wondering how the man bun came to be so popular, and more specifically why it is so common on UNC-Wilmington’s campus. Some say the occurrence of man buns began around 2013 when celebrities like Jared Leto and Harry Styles began to rock the look.

However common they are now, they were also very popular back in the day. Many men in this century have been likened to the Vikings and even warriors in the Roman Empire. Men’s hairstyles have come a long way from coconut head and beehive jokes.

But why are they so popular at UNCW? Well, UNCW has recently been ranked as one of the country’s top ten beach schools. Man buns are an especially popular style for surfers and hipsters, both being identities that are popular at UNCW.

The popularity of man buns has also had a negative effect: extreme jealously. Many men who have straight hair or are unable to grow their hair very long are angry at their inability to produce the popular man bun, and thus feelings of inferiority.

To solve this problem, commercial businesses have come up with the clip-on man bun. Not only does it satiate the jealousy of other men, but it also creates a man bun market for businesses everywhere.

Overall, most women approve of the man bun as a positive addition to popular male culture, but haters will hate. Anyway, what can I say? (Most) girls just wanna have bun. For more information about man buns visit manbunhairstyle.com.
