In response to an ice storm warning for southeast North Carolina, UNCW announced classes are canceled on Friday, Jan. 21. Campus dining will continue to provide services for residential students during the storm, and areas with heavy foot traffic across campus will be salted by Housing and Residence Life. However, the university is urging students to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary trips across campus.

Multiple campus services will be unavailable due to the inclement weather, including COVID-19 testing through the Student Health Center which closes at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20 and will open again on Monday, Jan. 24. The Student Recreation Center is closed on Friday, as is Randall Library.

UNCW Athletics moved the women’s basketball home game against James Madison University to 2 p.m. on Friday in response to the storm. The game will also be broadcast on 95.9 FM The Breeze radio station for fans who want to remain cautious during the weather events.

It is unsure what students can expect from the storm, but The Seahawk will provide more coverage of the university’s response to the weather conditions as the events unfold.
