BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky – Former UNCW shortstop Greg Jones hit a three-run home run in his first career game for the Bowling Green Hot Rods (6-2) in last night’s 8-7 win over the Asheville Tourists (3-4).

Jones’ blast to center field came in the third inning and helped break a 1-1 tie. The Cary native made his first start of the season Wednesday night and did not waste any time showing fans why he was taken in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

Jones finished the contest going 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a walk.

UNCW’s highest draft pick in program history, Jones was selected 22nd overall by Tampa Bay and finished 2019 batting .335 for the Hudson Valley Renegades.

Jones is currently the eighth-ranked prospect in the Rays’ organization and looks to continue making an impact for its High-A affiliate in Bowling Green.

The Hot Rods and Jones return to action May 13 for the third game of a six-game series against Asheville. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. (CDT). Follow the action by tuning into WBGN 94.5 FM or visit https://www.milb.com/bowling-green/fans/audio-listen-live.
