Senate approves 2021-2022 SGA budget

During last week’s Student Government Association (SGA) meeting, the senate approved their budget for the next school year.

Kyle Glover, treasurer, presented the proposed SGA budget for the 2021-2022 school year during the new business section of the meeting. Glover noted that money will be allocated like a normal

year, meaning like any previous and regular school year.

The SGA budget for the 2020-2021 was adjusted in January due to the effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and thus did not reflect a typical budget’s numbers. The previous budget was abnormal due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The total budget is $61,997.50 and a breakdown of that can be seen below.

Any money left over from the budget is split between the special activities for on-campus programs (60% of left over money/$37,198.50) and SGA student org travel for off-campus (40% of left over money/$24,799).

Changes from the 2020-2021 included, an increase of $500 to the SGA executive account and $10,000 for capital expenditures.

Of the total SGA 2021-2022 budget, $17,200 is allocated for the SGA executive account.

Changes from last year include increasing the provost breakfast programming budget to $350, sustainability budget to $400, forums/student orgs united budget to $250, UNC Association of Student Governments (ASG) conference budget to $150 and promotion – SGA marketing/services to $1,750.

Meanwhile, decreases included executive travel down to $200 and SGA inauguration down to $2,500.

Additionally, the total budget for 2021-2022 office operations is $122,300.

Changes from last year include an increase in the executive/pro-temp pay to $28,600. This is an increase of $450 from last year and $4,000 from 2019-2020.

Glover noted the reason for this increase was due to the recently added executive position of director of sustainability.

Other changes included decreasing the office supplies budget from this year by $100 to $300. Meanwhile, increases were made to the technical equipment to $1,100 from $250 in 2020-2021 and $1,150 from 2019-2020, to hopefully purchase a new office computer.
