WILMINGTON – After an outstanding opening weekend, UNCW forward Jaylen Sims received CAA Player of the Week honors. Sims led the Seahawks to a 2-1 record which helped capture the Makayo Medical Asheville Classic title to kick off the 2020-21 season.

The Charlotte native stuffed the stat sheet all weekend long averaging 26.7 points, while shooting 62.9 %  from the field and nearly 67 %  from long range, all three of which rank top five in the CAA. Sims begins his junior year averaging a career high in points (26.7 ppg) after scoring just 11.5 points per contest last year.

Sims played nearly every minute of the Hawks’ three-game stint, averaging 38.9 mpg which also leads the CAA. The 6-foot-6-inches forward never played fewer than 38 minutes and played the entire 40 minutes against UNC Asheville (0-2) when the Seahawks picked up their first win of the season.

The last UNCW player to receive CAA Player of the Week honors was the one and only Devontae Cacok on Jan. 14, 2019.

Sims will look to continue his dominant play on Dec. 9 when the Seahawks (2-1) travel to take on East Carolina (1-0) at 6 p.m.
