UNC Wilmington (3-3) opened up home play for the 2019 season against Howard on Friday afternoon. The Bison (1-5) looked to rebound after a tough 1-3 showing last weekend in the Southern Softball Challenge, and falling 8-0 in six innings against Rhode Island earlier on Friday.

The Seahawks, coming off a losing weekend of their own in the Joanne Graf Classic (hosted by defending National Champion Florida State), sought to open up play at Boseman Field on a high note. UNCW did just that in its 10-3 win over Howard.

Team leaders for the ‘Hawks included freshman outfielder Camryn Dean who scored on each of her three at-bats, as well as senior second baseman Anna Hessenthaler who scored twice on two chances at the plate. Freshman pitcher/shortstop Janel Gamache also came in big with three RBIs.

The Fairfield Inn & Suites Seahawk Softball Bash continues until Sunday. To close out Friday’s play, the Seahawks take on Radford with a 3 p.m. opening pitch followed by a matchup between Rhode Island and Radford set at a 5:30 p.m. start.
