How early should you take the GRE before applying to graduate school?

Most people recommend that you sign up to take the GRE at least a month before the application for your program is due. This will give you plenty of time to receive your official scores and report them to your school. Immediately after you finish taking the GRE you get to view your unofficial scores for the verbal reasoning and quantitative reasoning sections. Within 10 – 15 days your official verbal and quantitative reasoning scores along with your analytical writing score will be posted to your GRE online account. So even though it is recommended that you provide yourself a 30-day window to receive your scores and report them to the school, you only need a minimum of 15 days. But, with this in mind, you don’t want to allow yourself only 15 days for everything to go through, just in case something delays the process and causes you to miss your deadline.

I’m graduating in December and I’m trying to decide if I should stay in Wilmington or move somewhere else. I just want some insight on what I should do.

I definitely think that either decision would benefit you, but you should base your decisions off of what your plans are for the near future. For example, if you are planning to go to graduate school or if you just want to find a job and start working. If you are going to go back to school, then I think staying in Wilmington and working while you can would be a good idea. However, if you are wanting to find a job and start working then I would either stay here or move somewhere that seems more permanent than what you have been associating as just your college town. If you decide to move somewhere after December, you will not have any problems with subleasing your living space. Several individuals will be looking for a place to live in the spring. Personally, I think I would choose to stay in Wilmington and enjoy at least one more spring/summer season here while you already have a place to live.

Since the Hurricane, I can’t seem to keep my grades up, but I am having to miss the extra SI sessions because of my work schedule. Is there another way I can receive help?

A lot of students are experiencing the problem of trying to keep their grades up during this compacted semester. You could always start by going to your professor’s office hours or scheduling an appointment with them if you are not available during their office hours. Most professors are being understanding of students’ questions and concerns because of the stress that many people are experiencing due to the hurricane. If you prefer to work with the SI instructor instead of the professor, you could email them and see if they have sessions at any other times throughout the week or if they would be willing to help you individually. Another option would be to reach out to other students in the class that seem to have a good grasp on the subject. Most of the time students are willing to help each other because they know how it feels to be behind in a subject.
