UNCW Senior found dead
Brian Pearson King, a 21-year-old UNCW senior, was found dead last Sunday morning in a house in Wilmington.
According to Linda Rawley of the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded to 4409 Spirea Drive at 10:47 a.m., shortly after King’s body was found. Rawley said that foul play was not suspected, although investigators are questioning the person who found King’s body. No charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
An autopsy was performed on King in Jacksonville on Monday. Southeastern N.C. regional pathologist Dr. Charles Garrett said the autopsy was inconclusive, and results of toxicology tests are pending. “It may take 60 to 90 days,” he said.
Dean of Students Terry Curran confirmed King’s death Tuesday morning, calling it a “great loss for the community.” Curran said King was a communication studies major due to graduate next school year.
Dr. Bill Bolduc, associate professor of communication studies, was one of King’s instructors.
“One of his goals was communications consulting. He was applying at a local TV station,” Bolduc said.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on Kings Street in Kings Mountain. A local memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Wilmington located at 5th and Market streets.
