Mock NFL draft

With no real elite superstar entering this year’s NFL Draft, many would think that there is not much intrigue or excitement worth tuning to this weekend.

It’s true that this year’s edition lacks a Michael Vick, Donovan McNabb or any player with the last name of Manning, but that unpredictability will make this draft one to remember. My opinionated breakdown:

1: San Francisco 49ers: This team went 2-14 last year and needs help everywhere. desperately needs a quarterback, I think the 49ers will stay in-state and choose Aaron Rodgers.

2: Miami Dolphins: This team is still reeling from last season’s Ricky Williams debacle. They need offensive help and a running back will help ease the pain of Williams’ loss. Look for the Dolphins to take Ronnie Brown from Auburn.

3. Cleveland Browns: Any true Browns fan will tell you they are still waiting for a decent quarterback after the failed Tim Couch experiment. They will take whatever quarterback the 49ers do not take. I see Alex Smith going here.

4. Chicago Bears: Assuming both Rodgers and Smith have been taken they will look to a receiver, choosing Michigan’s Braylon Edwards.

5. Tampa Buccaneers: It is hard to believe this is the same team that went to the Super Bowl a couple years ago. They need someone who can be a threat on offense. Cedric Benson will be their pick.

6. Tennessee Titans: This team was a joke on defense at twenty-seventh in the league last year. They could use an exciting player to intimidate offenses and flashy cornerback Antrel Rolle could be the guy.

7. Minnesota Vikings: The Vikings have thrived with their offense in the past, but their defense is the reason they cannot make the playoffs. The smart move would be to draft LB Derrick Johnson.

8. Arizona Cardinals: The Cards are used to having early first round picks and they are ecstatic to see that RB Carnell Williams is still available.

9. Washington Redskins: Joe Gibbs needs help on both offense and defense. If WR Mike Williams is still here, they will not hesitate.

We’ll skip down to pick no. 14 for the Carolina Panther fans reading: The Panthers need big bodies to protect Delhomme. Don’t be surprised if they take OL Alex Barron of Florida State for help on the line.
