BREAKING NEWS: Shots fired, UNCW police apprehend suspect

 

Wilmington Police have released details of a shooting near campus. The incident was reported at 4:21
on Friday afternoon. David Carroll, 42, was shot at the Seahawk Square Apartments on Seahawk Court.
His shoulder was injured, but Carroll was able to drive himself to the hospital.
 
UNCW Police apprehended the suspect, Reginald Gagnier, Jr., 19, on Friday after searching the woods
around campus for the shooter. The SABLE helicopter was also used to help search for the suspect.
UNCW Police found Gagnier as he was returning to Seahawk Square, according to the Wilmington Police
Department. They handed him over to the WPD, who took Gagnier into custody. Gagnier has been
charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and is being held
under $100,000 bond.
 
The victim and the shooter knew each other, Police say. Carroll owns a unit at Seahawk Square
Apartments. It is unclear whether Gagnier lives in the apartment, as he has a different residence on file,
according to the WPD.
