Off the field with Shaun Utterson
Shaun Utterson, star defender on the UNC Wilmington men’s soccer team, answered a few questions about himself as well as a few about his experiences on and off the field as a Seahawk.
The Seahawk: What’s your favorite food?
Shaun Utterson: Chicken.
TS: What’s your favorite color?
SU: Green. Definitely green. It’s the color of the pitch and of nature.
TS: What did you want to be when you were little?
SU: I’ve always wanted to be a footballer. Ever since I was little.
TS: What are your plans after graduation?
SU: The plan is to have a good four weeks of running and working out this summer, and then hopefully I’ll get a good opportunity with a club back home in England or somewhere overseas. I’m just working on getting opportunities back home right now.
TS: What is your favorite memory from UNCW?
SU: Definitely winning the conference in 2009, and then going on to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. We played in Charlotte in the first round, and it was a foggy night. Great memories from that night include having to take penalty kicks, and I was lucky enough to get to take one.
TS: If you could send a message to fans at UNCW what would you say?
SU: Thanks for coming out to the games, and if anyone is interested in coming out to the games next year you definitely should. It’s a great atmosphere when there are a lot of fans out there. It means a lot to the team when we have a good home-field advantage because of the fans.
TS: What were your thoughts on the redhead article that came out in The Seahawk a little while back?
SU: I thought it was really funny; I got a good laugh out of it. I showed it to my friends and family back home, and they all had a good laugh about it as well. I was proud of Cody’s comment, he summed it up very well in his couple of sentences.
TS: Finish this sentence: Women at UNCW love me because ______.
SU: I’ve got great banter.
