Tuition increases for UNCW students

The tuition for UNC Wilmington students will increase this year.

UNCW’s Board of Trustees met on November 20 to review a request for a tuition increase. Michael Shivar, the chair of Board of Trustees, said the board approved the increase on November 21.

“The additional tuition revenues will be used primarily to strengthen the academic core and address human capital needs,” Shivar said.

To strengthen the academic core, the increase in funding will be used for new faculty positions, expanded course offerings, enhanced academic programs, and seed funding for grant development.

Other costs include an excellence and equity fund for faculty and staff, personnel needs in student services, and graduate student stipends. The Board of Trustees hopes to address human capital needs through these expenditures.

“The tuition request addressed several areas where additional support would enhance the student’s educational experience at UNCW,” Shivar said.

During the 2015 to 2016 academic year, the tuition increase is $162, and during the 2016 to 2017 academic year it will increase to $167.50.
