Apps, Apps, Everywhere

Apps, apps, apps galore. In today’s society almost everyone is glued to their phones or other electronic devices. We have adapted to a new norm now that is taking over our lives. We want everything quickly and available instantaneously, and we are not used to having to wait long for anything. Anything we are curious about or need we simply look up on the Internet or some App, and the answer is provided within minutes.

Whether you use an iPhone or an Android, there are thousands of Apps available for your convenience. However, among those thousands of various Apps, not all of them are free. The big question is: would you pay to have an App on your phone?

For college students, money is already a dilemma, and most of us are often scrounging for change just to get a tray at Cookout at 1 a.m. It is all too true of a reality for many of us! Now, when you think about it, would you spend money on an App that could benefit you, or would you spend it on the Cookout tray?

Using Apps that are free are not hurting the companies, because people are more likely to use the Apps if they do not have to pay for them. I know that I personally have only bought one App before and it was not an expensive one. I would just rather spend my money elsewhere. However, I have come across certain Apps that I have debated buying because they seemed truly helpful.

Companies are creating more and more Apps that college kids can use and get for free. It is obvious that college students are mostly broke anyway, so it is extremely helpful when we can get anything for free.

Some examples of free Apps that every college student would benefit from are Quizlet, OneDrive, Groupon, SworkIt Lite, Uber, Mint and Any.Do. These Apps were all created in order to help students and others to organize and make their lives easier. On top of all the benefits provided by these Apps, the best thing about them is that they are free.

“I use free Apps,” said UNC Wilmington freshman Jake Kenley. “Unless it’s for something I need then I’ll pay for it, but otherwise I’d rather use free Apps.”

As a freshman, I understand how being thrown into a new environment with greater independence and responsibility can be a bit overwhelming at times. However, free Apps help me get organized, study and do other things; they are a huge stress reliever and certainly come in handy. So, fellow students, take some time out of your hectic schedules and pay attention to all the free greatness out there that will benefit you, and trust me, you won’t be sorry.
