In recognition of his outstanding performance against Colonial Athletic Association rival Hofstra over the weekend, Robbie Thorburn has been named CAA Player of the Week.

The junior outfielder proved to be UNCW’s most valuable player at the plate in its three games versus the Pride. He finished the series 9-for-12 in his qualifying at-bats to go along with two RBI and eight runs scored.

Included in his nine hits were four doubles and two triples that helped UNCW plate 34 runs in the series.

Not all of Thorburn’s exploits happened on offense.

Saturday, faced with a fly ball out to center field and a runner tagging up on third base, Thorburn fielded the ball and launched a throw to home plate, right into the hands of catcher Nick Feight, and saved a Hofstra run from scoring.

2016 has served as a breakout year for Thorburn thus far. He is currently batting .389—166 points higher than 2015—and his production towards the bottom of the UNCW lineup has helped the Seahawks stay consistent through all nine batters.
