Sam Fisher

With the breakup of Weekend Excursion, one of the South’s most beloved house bands, lead singer Sam Fisher has decided to embark on a solo project of momentous proportions. Touring the East Coast to promote his debut album, A Tale of Two Moons, Fisher is following an appearance at Wilmington’s own Soapbox with a European tour and a return to the states by April. Fisher is man with a work ethic like no other, and a true determination to make it on his own. Not one to deny his roots, Fisher knows where most of his newfound fans discovered him first. “Weekend Excursion’s fan base was more like a community, a family. They’d travel to see us play, follow everything we did, and I’m still seeing some of that now. They’re still coming out to support me,” Fisher said. While the core of Weekend Excursion is no more, Fisher is touring with former band mate, WE guitarist Ryan Brooks. Still, Fisher admits that the feeling of touring alone is nothing like that of touring with the band. “It’s just a different experience. I don’t compare it. I’m not even traveling alone; I’m with Ryan. There is a bond when you take that kind of risk, when night after night you put the music on the line. With WE, we were like a group of brothers,” Fisher said. “They were my family, and that almost makes you invincible.” Still, Fisher is finding his newly discovered independence intoxicating. “I’ll go anywhere to play music. It’s definitely nice to be ‘the guy’ now. People are actually getting to hear what I sound like, and that gives me all kinds of freedom,” he said. Perhaps the most endearing of Fisher’s qualities is his true dedication to his fans. Not one to deny people of his music, Fisher encourages downloading his songs off of his Web Site, www.samsongs.com. Fisher is an advocate of music downloading. “I own the song, but it belongs to anyone who wants to hear it,” Fisher said. As Fisher prepares to release his last independent album, his debut CD, and embark on his first solo tour, the future seems bright for this talented musician. “It’s all definitely new and teaching me a lot. I feel like I’m becoming a better songwriter now,” Fisher said. It won’t be long before Sam Fisher is a household name, and this time, he’ll have done it all on his own.
